French

What is the overall aim of what we are learning in French?

Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. Studying French at Northolt High School fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of global matters. The lessons enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. They provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in French.

What are students learning in Year 7 & 8?

Students learn about a vast array of topics suited to the life of a young person. They explore how to describe themselves, their families, explore the different school systems, learn functional language skills, and by the time they reach year 8, they will be aware of life in the Francophone speaking world.

Why are they learning these things?

Students study these topics to broaden their minds, challenge their linguistic capabilities, and realise that there is a world awaiting their visit.
