Nikesh Shukla visit to Northolt High School

Year 9 had the privilege of a visit from author Nikesh Shukla on 2nd October 2018.  He gave a talk to the whole year group about his new book, ‘Run, Riot’.  Although Nikesh has written novels for adults, film screenplays, television scripts, short stories and magazine articles, ‘Run, Riot’ is his first novel for teenagers.  He was inspired to write it to address the low representation of BAME authors writing for teenagers.

Nikesh Visit (3)Nikesh grew up locally, in Harrow, but now lives in Bristol which inspired the setting for ‘Run, Riot’.  It’s a fast-paced thriller about teenage twins who discover corruption surrounding their tower block home.

The students listened to Nikesh read an extract from the book.  He also talked about his acclaimed book, ‘The Good Immigrant’, an anthology featuring essays from 21 British BAME writers about race and immigration.

Year 9 are now looking forward to borrowing ‘Run, Riot’ from the school library.  We also look forward to Nikesh’s next novel for teenagers, ‘The Boxer’ which is due to be published next year.
