On Friday 17th November 2017, twenty of our Year 9 students attended the launch of the Ealing Teen ReadTeen Read Marcus Alexander (cropped) 2018. Our school was host to the first ever Ealing Teen Read last year.  This year, we travelled to Elthorne Park High School for the event.

Guest author Marcus Alexander gave a speech, telling the students about his adventures and his trilogy, Keeper of the Realms. Three of our students were lucky enough to win posters for asking questions at the end of the talk.  The shortlisted 6 books, chosen by secondary school librarians in the borough, were then announced.

Before travelling back to school, the students enjoyed the opportunity to meet Marcus and  buy signed books by him.

The students now have until the beginning of March to read the shortlisted books.  They will then get together as a group to Teen Read Adrianna and Chanulyavote for their 1st, 2nd and 3rd favourite books on the shortlist.  On 13th March 2018, they will return to Elthorne Park High School for the Ealing Teen Read Final.  Popular teen author Holly Bourne will give the guest talk at the Final.  Her book, ‘Am I Normal Yet’ won last year’s Ealing Teen Read.

The Teen Read boosts literacy skills through reading for pleasure.   Our school is proud to be taking part as we place a great deal of emphasis on the importance of reading.  Teen Read Chanulya Jessyka SuhaniThe school library has purchased copies of the shortlisted books and the participating students have now made a start on their first book on the list.  They are looking forward to months of interesting reading ahead.
