Author Non Pratt Visits Northolt High School

Non and ChanulyaWe were delighted to welcome back author Non Pratt to work with our Year 9 students on Friday 26th January.

Non first visited Northolt High in 2014, a few months after the publication of her first novel, Trouble.  She has now had three novels and two novellas published.  This was the third time our students have had the privilege of working with Non.  We first met her at an author event at West Ham Football Club as part of the Premier League Reading Stars scheme.

All of our current Year 9 students attended Non’s talk in our South Hall.  The talk centred on the power that story creators have over their consumers.  She challenged our students to consider whether characters in recent films and TV programmes are representative of real life.  Time was allowed for questions.  Year 9 were enthusiastic in questioning Non about her life as an author.  She very generously gave out books and signed postcards to the students who asked questions.

Some students stayed behind at break to purchase Non’s books whichNon signing books with students she signed.  She also held writing workshops for some students.  The school library has purchased signed copies of each of Non’s books.  Non also kindly gave copies of  both of her novellas to the school library.

After her visit, Non said, “Thanks so much for inviting me back to Northolt.  It was lovely to meet so many funny, smart and attentive teenagers.”
