Safeguarding Your Child

Northolt High School is fully committed to meeting its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in its care. We have the safeguarding of our pupils at the heart of everything that we do, promoting the physical and emotional well-being of every pupil.
 
This is achieved by creating a culture of safe recruitment by adopting procedures that help deter, reject or identify people who might pose a risk to children, educating pupils on how to keep safe and to recognise behaviour that is unacceptable, identifying and making provision for any child that has been subject to abuse. We ensure that members of the governing body, the Headteacher and staff members understand their responsibility, under safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance, to be alert to the signs of child abuse and to refer concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
 
Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:
  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • ​Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.
 
The school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead is Grace De Sousa (Assistant Headteacher). Any concerns are passed through the members of staff who are trained as child protection officers in school in compliance with sharing of information guidance.
 
The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents and carers about their children. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Children’s Services and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with child protection procedures). The school will always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents and carers as well as all external agencies. By working closely together everyday, with your child's best interest at the heart of everything we do, children will continue to be safeguarded to the highest standard at Northolt High School.
